EXECUTIVE ACTIONS

  • As COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the country, Governor Holcomb has made the decision to delay further reopening in Indiana. Originally the state was set to move into the final stage of the governor’s reopening plan on July 4, but for now, he is pressing pause on what he calls stage 4.5. In his Executive Order, Governor Holcomb is allowing and limiting various activities. For example, overnight camps are able to commence but are subject to requirements. Fairs and festivals may resume so long as social distancing is achieved. Conventions can occur but are subject to gathering limitations, and state government buildings may be restricted to appointment only. The restrictions are expected to last through at least July 17.
  • While Governor Holcomb supports any local decision to mandate masks, he has yet to issue a statewide order doing the same. In a recent video campaign titled “#MaskUpHoosiers,” the governor is seen encouraging citizens to wear masks. Dr. Kris Box also stated her support saying, “masks are the answer.”

HEALTH

  • Beginning today, Marion County is requiring residents to wear masks when they are indoors at public places or when they are outdoors and social distancing is not possible. This will make Marion County the fourth county in the state to make masks mandatory.

ECONOMY

  • Mayor Joe Hogsett of Indianapolis has announced a rental assistance program for residents who are facing hardships during the ongoing pandemic. The city is hoping to assist anywhere from 7,000 to 11,000 eligible residents by providing up to three months of rent. To be eligible, the applicant must be a renter in Marion County, have an income that’s been reduced due to the pandemic, and not have received any other kind of assistance from other sources. Residents could begin applying on July 13.
