In his recent “Law Update” column, Eric Moch discusses how the emerging popularity of telehealth has also given rise to new opportunities for fraud and abuse. Moch cites the cases of two nurse practitioners who bilked insurance companies out of multi-millions of dollars by fraudulently prescribing nondurable medical equipment. He also examines some of the methods perpetrators use and offers strategies special investigation units can use to undercover fraudulent activity.
