Irina Dmitrieva closed out 2025 with two additional wins, reinforcing her impressive track record.

The first case involved a complex rental/leasing dispute that intersected with bankruptcy law. On November 3, 2025, the Illinois Appellate Court, First Division, dismissed a pro se appeal in Wilson v. Cagan Management Group, Inc. Plaintiff had sought to enforce a $50,000 settlement in a conversion and breach of contract dispute. The decision turned on plaintiff’s Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing prior to settlement. Dmitrieva successfully demonstrated that jurisdiction rested exclusively with the bankruptcy court and ensured the appellate court had the necessary record—including bankruptcy filings—to dismiss the appeal under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 23(c)(1).

In the second case, Dmitrieva represented an insurer in a dispute arising from a residential remodeling project in Chicago. Plaintiffs sued the general contractor, its corporate principal, and an insurance carrier, seeking a declaration of coverage under the contractor’s CGL policy. The Cook County circuit court granted Dmitrieva’s motion to dismiss plaintiffs’ claims against the insurer with prejudice as Illinois law does not allow direct actions against insurance carriers.

Dmitrieva, a partner in the firm’s Chicago office, is a highly experienced appellate litigator with more than 20 years of success in federal and state appellate courts representing both private clients and governmental entities. Previously, she was the sole appellate attorney for the Chicago Transit Authority, represented the City of Chicago and its agencies in appellate courts, and practiced complex commercial litigation and appellate law at a large Chicago law firm.
