Irina Dmitrieva and Kelly Libbra published articles in the latest issue of IDC Quarterly, the professional journal of the Illinois Defense Counsel.
Dmitrieva’s regular “Appellate Practice Corner” column dissects two appellate court rulings reiterating that an appellate court is not obligated to review an order in a pending proceeding just because the order includes a trial court’s Rule 304(a) finding. She also offers practice tips on handling cases related to this issue.
In the same issue’s “Monograph,” Libbra and her two co-authors examine the legal, scientific, and medical evolution of secondary/take-home asbestos exposure claims. They also offer practical strategies for defending against these exposure claims.
Dmitrieva, a partner in the firm’s Chicago office, is a highly experienced appellate litigator with more than 20 years of success in federal and state appellate courts representing both private clients and governmental entities. Previously, she was the sole appellate attorney for the Chicago Transit Authority, represented the City of Chicago and its agencies in appellate courts, and practiced complex commercial litigation and appellate law at a large Chicago law firm.
Libbra, a partner in the firm’s Edwardsville office, defends a diverse range of companies—from Fortune 500 companies to small, local businesses—against premises and product litigation claims. Her goal is to reduce her clients’ exposures and resolve claims in a cost-effective manner. Libbra is currently Chair of the Illinois Defense Counsel’s Toxic Tort Committee.
