SOCIAL LIFE
- Certain areas of Missouri are working on their own phases to reopen at a later date, despite the rest of the state officially reopening yesterday. The city and county of St. Louis, for example, will remain under a stay-at-home order until mid-May, hoping to have a reopening plan in place by the end of this week. Kansas City has issued a plan to reopen, starting with opening nonessential businesses May 6. On May 15, the city will implement a 10/10/10 plan, which will allow buildings and businesses to reopen with 10% building occupancy or 10 people allowed inside, and requiring anyone who visits for more than 10 minutes to provide contact information. Jackson County, where Kansas City is located, has also decided to implement a phased reopening beginning May 11.
HEALTH
- On Monday, Missouri saw its largest single-day increase in new COVID-19 cases. However, a big contributor to this rise in cases is continued mass testing, specifically of workers at a meat processing plant near Kansas City. The average number of confirmed cases in Missouri has been on a four-day upward trend but has not yet reached the peak it hit in April.
