A feature article in the most recent edition of Emerging Lawyers Magazine highlights the competitive spirit and strong work ethic that are such a large part of Dan Lytle’s career success.
Lytle credits high-achieving family members as his greatest influences. He also credits HB senior partner Gordon Broom and Jim Crews, his college basketball coach, as being instrumental in his development. “[Their] expectations were very significant … and there was [always] acknowledgment when those were met,” he said.
Judge David Dugan stated that when he was practicing law and had Lytle as an opponent on a case, he knew he’d have to work hard and bring his best game. He described Lytle as “knowledgeable, keen in his use of appropriate tactics in representing his client, and always well-prepared for depositions, hearing and trial.”
In the article, Lytle (a partner in the firm’s Edwardsville office) says that he particularly enjoys trial work. To him, part of being a good competitor is being prepared for the unexpected. He also considers being in a position to persuade a judge or jury “one of the most wonderful things you can do in this profession.”
