Murphy and Messina Featured Speakers at State Bar Association’s Environmental Law Conference
Michael Murphy and Alec Messina will be among the featured speakers at the Illinois State Bar Association’s (ISBA) 22nd annual Environmental Law Conference, which is being held in Chicago on May 9 and May 10. Messina will be part of a four-person panel discussing carbon sequestration. Murphy is the moderator of that panel as well as one discussing remote monitoring and inspection of environmental conditions. Murphy is also co-coordinator of the two-day conference. HeplerBroom is one of the sponsors of the event, which is presented jointly by ISBA’s Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, the Chicago Bar’s Environmental Law Committee, and the Chicago Bar Young Lawyers’ Environmental Committee.
Murphy, a partner in the firm’s Springfield office, focuses his practice on environmental law. He is an experienced litigator who defends clients in state-initiated enforcement actions and citizen lawsuits claiming injuries from environmental contamination. He has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters and is on the Board of Directors of the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois.
Messina, also a partner in the firm’s Springfield office, is a member of HeplerBroom’s Environmental Law practice team and also spearheads its Government Affairs practice group. In addition, he currently serves as the Executive Director of the Illinois Chamber’s Energy Council. Prior to joining HeplerBroom, he served as Director of the Illinois EPA and was the Illinois Governor’s Policy Adviser on Energy and Environment. Previously, he had been Chief Legal Counsel for the Illinois EPA and, later, the Office of State Fire Marshal.
