Kathleen Hamilton and Thomas Magee’s client was granted a summary judgment in a recent St. Louis County legal malpractice case. Plaintiff had alleged that HeplerBroom’s client had failed to prevent a default judgment against the Plaintiff and had failed to participate in a damages hearing that resulted in a final judgement against the Plaintiff. Hamilton and Magee successfully argued that the evidence against their client was based on speculation and that the Plaintiff had failed to make a submissible case for legal malpractice and link the alleged malpractice to the damages. The case has been appealed.
Hamilton, a partner in the firm’s St. Louis office, focuses her practice on the defense of professional liability and appellate matters. She speaks and writes regularly on numerous legal topics, and in 2021 she was appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court to the Joint Commission on Women in the Profession.
Magee, also a partner in the firm’s St. Louis office, focuses his practice on trials involving complex litigation, including product liability, personal injury, professional liability, and trucking & transportation matters. Over the course of his career, he has been the recipient of numerous honors, including being a past recipient of the Missouri Lawyer Award for being the defense attorney with the most reported verdicts/judgments.
