Indiana Government Actions on COVID-19 – Updated 5/4/2020
Today’s update discusses:
- rise in reported cases
- pushback from local mayors
- new testing sites
HEALTH
- Today Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb reopened Indiana in phases, despite the reported 583 new cases and 19 additional deaths. As such, this past weekend also brought some pushback from mayors in southern Indiana who oppose Governor Holcomb’s timeline, fearing that it is too early to begin some of the phasing that the Governor proposes. Mayors such as Treva Hodges of Charlestown have created their own phased plan that does not include dates and continues to limit time in city parks and gatherings to no more than 10 people.

- New testing sites opened across Indiana today. After teaming up with Optum Serve Health services, the state has been able to open 20 new sites to offer free testing to any resident who is symptomatic. The state plans to open an additional 30 sites next week, expecting to test approximately 300,000 people in all locations within the first 30 days.
