HB Attorneys Secure Defense Verdict in Talc Case
After a nearly three-week trial, a St. Clair County (Illinois) jury found Johnson & Johnson not liable in a wrongful-death suit filed by the family of a woman who died of ovarian cancer. The family had asked for up to $50 million in damages. HeplerBroom attorneys Jason Rankin, Julieta Kosiba, and Beth Bauer were part of the defense team.
Bauer and Rankin are partners in the firm’s Edwardsville office who focus their practices on the defense of complex, multi-party civil cases and class actions. They both have extensive experience defending product liability cases in what some have called the toughest jurisdictions for defendants in the nation, including cases involving pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Each is rated an AV Preeminent Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, and both have been selected to the lists of Illinois Super Lawyers and Illinois Leading Lawyers. Kosiba is an associate attorney with the firm and focuses her practice on the defense of personal injury, employment and labor law, and property damage matters.
