Reda Article Tackles Defending Claims Asserting Commercial Truck Drivers Can Commit Professional Malpractice

A recent issue of the Trucking Industry Defense Association’s newsletter features an article by partner Michael Reda entitled “Defense Tactics to Refute Emerging Attempts to Impose a Higher Standard of Care on Commercial Truck Drivers.” In the article, Reda provides an overview of recent court decisions on the issue, then outlines defense tactics that can be used throughout the course of a case to combat attempts to impose a higher standard. Specifically, he addresses steps to take when a Complaint is received as well as during discovery and depositions, with plaintiff’s experts, and with jury instructions. Reda, a partner in the firm’s St. Louis office, has tried scores of jury trials in state and federal courts in Illinois and Missouri, including cases covering catastrophic trucking accidents. He is a member of the Trucking Law Committee of the Defense Research Institute and has been named to the Illinois Leading Lawyers list since 2003.
