HeplerBroom Presents Workshop on Essential Skills Supervisors Need to Prevent or Mitigate Employment Discrimination Cases
HeplerBroom attorneys Tara Kuchar, Tom Wilson, and Julietta Kosiba are conducting a half-day training for workplace supervisors. The training is sponsored by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and will help supervisors build essential skills needed to prevent or mitigate employment-related lawsuits. Topics to be covered include:
- updating attendees on new laws and judicial opinions impacting Illinois employers and employees, including discussion of potential amendments to existing laws that may impact employers
- delving into anti-discrimination and anti-harassment training (including consideration of bullying and bystander issues)
- discussing key legal implications in common activities such as hiring, accommodations (including those for pregnancy, disability, and religious practices), and termination
- assisting attendees in how to best manage issues as they arise (including workplace investigations)
Continuing education credits are available to human resource professionals and attorneys.

Kuchar, a partner in the firm’s Edwardsville office, focuses her practice on defending and counseling businesses and other organizations on employment-related issues and in preparing and revising handbooks. She also has experience defending clients in complex litigation related to product liability, premises liability, and commercial matters.
Wilson, a partner in the firm’s Springfield office, focuses his practice on defending employers and government officers and employees in employment and civil rights claims. He has also defended a wide variety of industry leaders and businesses in general tort claims. Wilson is rated an AV Preeminent Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named both an Illinois Leading Lawyer and an Illinois Super Lawyer.
Kosiba, an associate attorney working for the firm’s Springfield office, focuses her practice on the defense of civil litigation matters, including representing employers in employment-related lawsuits. In addition to defending clients in court, she assists HB’s employment and labor team in drafting employee handbooks and other employment-related documents and counseling clients on employment issues.
