HB Supports Missouri High School Mock Trial Program
The firm extends it congratulations to the state champion mock trial team from Truman High School and the runner-up team from Cor Jesu Academy for their successes at the Missouri High School Mock Trial State Championships. The tournament, which was held in St. Louis from March 31 to April 2, was hosted by The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL).
HB Partner Rebecca Nickelson, co-chair of BAMSL’s Mock Trial Committee, noted that mock trials are structured like actual courtroom trials. By following the same rules and procedures as those that apply during real trials, students learn first-hand how the legal system works and what role judges, lawyers, juries, and witnesses play in the court system.
Nickelson also noted that the success of this year’s program was due in large part to the 23 HeplerBroom attorneys who volunteered to judge and evaluate the students. HB attorneys who participated included:
Ali Ayanaw | Geneka Holyfield | Sean Sheehan |
Alex Belotserkovsky | Carolyn Husmann | Tana Smith |
Doug Bieller | Tim Larkin | Jill Sundberg |
Kevin Birkenmeier | Kelly Libbra | Ashley Walker |
Lauren Collins | Mandi Moutray | Kate Watkins |
Michael Eberle | Tom Mudd | Kyle Westbrook |
Karma Edwards | Zach Pashea | Mary Beth Youngworth |
Veronica Harwin | Josephine Sangiorgio-Hirth |
